Financial Services
Having an MBA in Investment Finance has provided a strong foundation for
the financial services projects I have had the opportunity to participate in.
An overview of a few of those projects is offered below:
.
As a lead architect on a modernization effort for a global ISV (independent
software vendor) based in NYC I had opportunity to utilize and expand my
financial services experiences. This was a major modernization effort to
migrate the current system based on CORBA and C++ to a more modern
SOA architecture. This system included -- business analysis with the
solutions management group, grid computing, data warehousing and ETL,
database design and tuning.
As a consultant at The Phoenix Companies in Hartford CT I was involved in
a number of different projects. One of which was the replacement of an
aging securities hedging system used by the actuarial group, with new more
scalable system called LeadingHedge. This required the integration of the
new software with the existing system -- Moses. This involved business
reengineering as well as strong technical skills to accomplish.
Again at the Phoenix I was asked to oversee the installation and integration
of a new software package for financial operations - Principia SFP
(Structured Financial Platform).
The Phoenix Companies eventually spun off their Asset Management
Division into a separate company -- Virtus Investment Partners. As a lead
architect on that project I had primary responsibilities for infrastructure
analysis and RFP execution for infrastructure services for the spin off
company. Numerous external vendors were reviewed (Cervalis, Eze Castle,
Connectria, Navisite) for technical and business compatibility. The RFP
process was complex and detailed to pick the best set of vendors. Business
process transformations, between the two companies had to be done to
accommodate the new corporate structure.
I was contracted by a P&C company (National Grange Mutual) of New
Hampshire to lead a modernization effort of their core business systems.
The move to a service based approach involved detail business analysis
with NGM agents as we worked to remove friction from the business
process. This project was principally an integration effort - which included
mainframe (existing systems), new services, agent system, and vendor
assimilation. Acord AL3 was the integration standard.
Cigna Reinsurance had a large reinsurance business that had to be
managed and evaluated by the actuarial department. The business group
was hampered by a poor performing in-house developed system. Technical
tuning and business analysis was performed and recommendations
implemented to speed up processing. The suitability of running he software
in a grid environment (DataSynapse) was analyzed and tested.
